Frenkie de Jong Commits Long-Term Future to Barcelona Until 2029
Frenkie de Jong has officially extended his contract with Barcelona, securing his place at the club until 2029. The signing ceremony was held at the club’s headquarters, attended by the president, vice president, sporting committee members, as well as family, friends, and former player Bojan Krkic. This milestone highlights both the player’s and the club’s commitment to a long-term partnership.
De Jong first joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 from Ajax Amsterdam and quickly established himself as a key figure in the midfield. Despite changes in management over the years, his position remained secure due to his technical skill, tactical intelligence, and ability to control the game. His elegant playing style has made him an indispensable component of the team.
In recent seasons, De Jong has maintained remarkable consistency, contributing significantly under coach Hansi Flick. He played 46 matches across all competitions in the 2024/2025 season, helping stabilize Barcelona’s performance while overcoming minor injuries. His presence has been crucial in the club’s pursuit of domestic and international success.
During his time at Barcelona, De Jong has won multiple titles, including two La Liga trophies, two Copa del Rey, and two Supercopa de España.
