Olivier Giroud Eyes Playing Beyond 40, Inspired by Ronaldo

Olivier Giroud, now 39, is considering extending his football career into his 40s, following in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo. Currently playing for Lille after a season with Los Angeles FC, he has scored three goals in his first eight Ligue 1 matches, showing that he still enjoys playing at a high level and has no immediate plans to retire.
Giroud emphasizes that any decision about continuing will involve discussions with his family, balancing realism with his desire to contribute to the team. He highlights that as long as he can perform effectively and satisfy his club, he is open to prolonging his career.
The French striker draws inspiration from Ronaldo, who recently signed a two-year deal with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia at age 40. Giroud also values his return to France, noting Lille’s proximity to London, where he plans to settle after retirement, making the move ideal for both career and personal life.
Throughout his career, Giroud has achieved significant milestones, including scoring 105 goals for Arsenal and totaling 270 goals across club and national team. He still holds the record as France’s all-time leading scorer with 57 goals, only four ahead of Kylian Mbappé, and he hopes the younger striker will surpass the century mark in the coming years.
