Lazio Plans Big January Move: Three Out to Fund Insigne and Ilic
Lazio is reportedly preparing an active January transfer window, aiming to strengthen the squad under Maurizio Sarri. The club plans to sell three players recruited last season to generate funds for acquiring key targets, including free agent Lorenzo Insigne and Torino’s Ivan Ilic. These moves are part of a broader strategy to refresh the squad and address positions where the team has struggled.

The three players identified for potential departures struggled to secure regular spots under Sarri. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, initially a starter, failed to adapt to the coach’s tactical system. Reda Belahyane also struggled to make an impact, losing his role as backup in midfield, while Tijjani Noslin, despite versatility in attack, remained low in the team’s hierarchy. These underperformances have made them prime candidates for transfer.

Sarri continues to push for reunions with players he trusts from his Napoli tenure, particularly Insigne, while also considering Ilic as a midfield reinforcement after plans for Piotr Zielinski proved unattainable. The strategy reflects Sarri’s focus on blending proven experience with tactical fit, emphasizing players who can quickly adapt to his system.

Lazio is also considering other squad adjustments, including the potential exit of Nuno Tavares, who has struggled to find his place in the lineup. If Tavares departs, the club may renew interest in Genoa’s Spanish left-back Aaron Martin, indicating a clear plan to reshape the team while maintaining competitiveness in Serie A.
