Bayern Munich Determined to Keep Dayot Upamecano Amid Growing Transfer Interest

Bayern Munich are reportedly ready to do everything possible to secure a contract extension for defender Dayot Upamecano as his current deal nears its final stages. The club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, emphasized the French center-back’s importance, noting his development into one of the most complete defenders in world football over the past two seasons.
Since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021 for €42.5 million, Upamecano has faced periods of inconsistency but has significantly improved under Vincent Kompany’s guidance. Over the last 18 months, he has become a key figure in Bayern’s defensive line, providing stability and leadership that have been vital to the team’s success in both domestic and European competitions.
In the ongoing 2025-26 season, the 27-year-old has made 13 appearances across all tournaments, amassing 975 minutes of playtime and maintaining a high level of performance. His reliability and composure have made him an indispensable part of Bayern’s backline, prompting the club to prioritize negotiations for a new long-term deal.
However, Bayern face stiff competition as Real Madrid and Liverpool are reportedly monitoring the situation closely. Both clubs are prepared to make a move in the summer of 2026, potentially signing Upamecano as a free agent if contract talks with Bayern fail to produce an agreement in time.
