Southampton Sack Will Still After Five Disappointing Months in Charge

Southampton have officially parted ways with manager Will Still after just over five months at the helm, following a poor run of results in the Championship. The team currently sits 21st in the standings, only three points clear of the relegation zone, reflecting a sharp decline in form that prompted the club to make a swift managerial change.
The Saints’ latest 2-0 defeat to Preston North End marked their third consecutive loss, coming after setbacks against Bristol City and Blackburn Rovers. Over their last eleven matches in all competitions, they have managed only one win — a narrow victory against Sheffield United in late September — leaving supporters frustrated with the team’s lack of progress.
Under Still’s management, Southampton recorded just two wins, six draws, and five defeats in 13 league games, equating to a win rate of only 15.4 percent. The team also struggled in both attack and defense, scoring 13 goals while conceding 19, and averaging less than one point per game. These figures highlighted the urgency for change as the club aims to steer clear of a relegation battle.
Following Still’s departure, U-21 coach Tonda Eckert has been appointed as interim manager while the club searches for a permanent replacement. Southampton’s leadership hopes the transition will help rejuvenate the squad’s confidence and improve results as they look to climb back toward the upper half of the Championship table.
