Carragher Urges Everton to Sign a Striker in January to Avoid Relegation Battle

Jamie Carragher has urged Everton to prioritize signing a new center-forward in the January transfer window, arguing that the club must take action to avoid being dragged into a prolonged relegation fight. His comments came on Sky Sports following Everton’s 1-1 draw against Sunderland in Premier League Matchweek 10.
Carragher stressed that Everton’s main objective for the season is simply to stay out of the bottom three battle. He singled out the upcoming clash against Fulham as crucial: "That game against Fulham before the international break is absolutely vital for Everton. They must go all-out for the win; defeat is unacceptable, as Fulham would overtake them in the table given their current form."
While the former Liverpool defender clarified he does not predict relegation for the Toffees, he believes their immediate priority must be to look up the table, not over their shoulder.
"Everton desperately need to sign a new striker. The current forwards in the squad are simply not good enough, and that single issue could keep them anxious about staying in the Premier League from now until the end of the season," Carragher asserted.
Despite the recent change in ownership, which Carragher noted is "clearly much better" than the previous situation, he insisted that reinforcing the attack remains the crucial task: "The striker position is the one area Everton absolutely must prioritize in the January transfer window. They have to find someone."
