Maresca Labels Conceded Goals as 'Silly,' Insists Hato Hand-Ball Was Clear

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed frustration with his team's defensive lapses after they drew 2-2 with Qarabag, stating that the "silly goals" they conceded were avoidable.
Speaking to TNT Sport after the match, Maresca pinpointed the penalty areas as the deciding factor. "I think the biggest difference was in the box. We conceded some silly goals that we could have avoided, and most of the chances we created we could have finished better," he commented.
Maresca was particularly annoyed by the nature of the first goal conceded. "We conceded the first goal when they were playing with 10 men. I think conceding goals like this is silly," he stressed. This forced them to chase the game after going 1-2 down due to a subsequent penalty.
Despite the struggle, the coach found clarity in a controversial moment, stating that the hand-ball penalty awarded against Ajax defender Jorrel Hato was unambiguous. "I think the call was very clear. It was a hand-ball. It looked like a hand-ball," Maresca confirmed.
Maresca concluded by saying the team needs to adjust quickly for the weekend, noting that substitutes like Alejandro Garnacho, Enzo Fernández, and Liam Delap performed well. He did not provide an immediate update on the injury status of midfielder Roméo Lavia.
