Inter Miami Rejects Three European Loan Offers for Lionel Messi
Inter Miami has reportedly turned down three short-term loan offers for Lionel Messi, despite ongoing struggles in the 2025 MLS playoffs. Chelsea, Galatasaray, and Benfica reportedly approached the American club with proposals to bring Messi in for just four months during the MLS winter break. However, Inter Miami has decided to keep the superstar focused on their playoff campaign rather than entertaining temporary moves to Europe.
Messi recently signed a contract extension with Inter Miami, committing to at least two more years at the club. Even if Inter Miami exits the MLS playoffs, Messi would face a 2–3 month period without official competitive matches. The European clubs saw this gap as an opportunity to secure Messi for a brief stint, but Inter Miami chose to prioritize continuity and the team’s ambitions in the MLS Cup.
Galatasaray reportedly showed the most serious interest, willing to cover Messi’s entire salary for the short-term loan, equivalent to what he earns in a full MLS season. The Turkish side viewed the loan as a chance to strengthen their squad while also helping Messi maintain match fitness ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The club’s pursuit reflects their ambition to compete at a higher level and the commercial value Messi could bring both on and off the field.
Despite the lucrative offers, Inter Miami remains committed to keeping Messi fully integrated with the team. The decision underscores the club’s focus on stability and playoff success, ensuring their star player remains available for critical matches while continuing to develop their project in Major League Soccer.
