Cristiano Ronaldo Visits White House at Trump’s Invitation Following World Cup Qualification

Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo is set to visit the White House at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump, according to reports from Portugal's Record and CMTV.
The high-profile visit comes swiftly after Portugal secured their qualification for the 2026 World Cup (to be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico). Ronaldo arrived in Washington D.C. on Monday afternoon, with plans for the meeting with President Trump to take place close to noon local time.
The visit coincides with plans for the Portuguese national team to return to the U.S. for a major exhibition match. Reports from The Athletic indicate that Portugal and the United States have reached an agreement to stage a friendly match in March 2026 as part of both nations' World Cup preparations. The friendly is set to mark Ronaldo’s return to the United States for the first time in over a decade.
Adding another layer to the visit, the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is also scheduled to meet with President Trump at the White House on the same day.
