The Daily Mail Exclusive: Mudryk Passes Lie Detector Test Amid Doping Ban, Shevchenko Refuses Comment
According to an exclusive column by Daily Mail journalist Kieran Gil, the year following Mykhailo Mudryk’s sudden absence from Chelsea training and matches—initially attributed to illness—was due to an alleged anti-doping violation.

The situation began in November 2024, and while official sources, including Chelsea and his agents, initially refused to confirm the matter, the Daily Mail eventually received confirmation that the absence was related to a potential doping breach. The investigation was formally confirmed on December 17, 2024, when Chelsea stated the FA had notified Mudryk of a positive test for the prohibited substance Meldonium.

Following the initial positive test, Mudryk released an Instagram statement asserting his innocence and claiming he was unaware of the substance. He has since maintained a low profile, even changing his Instagram profile to read: "See how they hate."

The FA formally charged Mudryk on June 18, 2025, and the process is now in a confidential stage awaiting a final decision. The player reportedly faces a potential ban of up to four years in the worst-case scenario.

Crucially, it is claimed that Mudryk voluntarily took a polygraph (lie detector) test to prove that he never intentionally consumed the banned substance. The source of the Meldonium remains unknown, despite claims it occurred while with the Ukraine national team, which the Ukrainian FA has denied. The Daily Mail attempted to contact current Ukrainian FA president and former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko for comment, but received no response.

During his suspension, Mudryk has been unable to train with Chelsea teammates or visit the training base, instead working with external coaches to prepare for his return. Despite the long delay and the negative publicity, which follows an earlier incident involving a racially insensitive rap lyric, internal sources at Chelsea reportedly trust and support the player, who hopes for an opportunity to make up for lost time on the pitch.
