Persib Coach Signals Squad Shake-Up After Disappointing Performances
Persib’s setback against Lion City Sailors in the AFC Champions League Two triggered strong concern from the coaching staff. The 3–2 defeat in Singapore exposed inconsistencies within the squad, particularly from players who came off the bench. Although the team briefly held a 2–1 lead, defensive lapses and a lack of impact from substitutes allowed the match to slip away.
Several changes were made in the second half, with five players introduced to strengthen the team’s control of the game. Their contribution, however, failed to meet expectations, and the team was unable to secure even a single point. This result highlighted the gap between Persib’s current level and the demands of continental competition.
In response to the performance, the coach suggested that adjustments to the squad are likely. He indicated that some players may not remain with the team if they cannot rise to the standard required for top-level Asian football. The need for increased consistency and stronger mentality became a central message following the loss.
Despite the disappointment, the coach stressed the importance of regrouping quickly. He acknowledged responsibility for the defeat but emphasized that the focus must shift to upcoming matches, which are expected to be even more challenging. Persib now faces a crucial period in which improvement is essential to remain competitive.
