Joey Pelupessy Reportedly Set for Persib Move to Boost ACL2 Ambitions and Strengthen Indonesia for AFF 2026

Reports in local football circles suggest that Joey Pelupessy is on track to join Persib Bandung in the January 2026 transfer window. The move is believed to be driven by Persib’s ambition to compete more effectively in the AFC Champions League 2 for the 2025–2026 season. Observers also view his potential arrival as a strategic step that could benefit the Indonesian national team ahead of the AFF Championship in 2026. The information circulating among analysts indicates that the transfer rumor carries strong credibility.
Speculation about Pelupessy’s move first surfaced in mid-2025, following Persib’s recruitment of Thom Haye and the permanent signing of Eliano Reijnders. At that time, the club was also linked with Pelupessy and Asnawi Mangkualam, but both deals reportedly stalled due to financial commitments already made to secure Reijnders. Despite the delay, discussions surrounding Pelupessy’s future have continued to gain traction as the next transfer window approaches.
Should Pelupessy join Persib, the club’s midfield is expected to receive a significant boost. His arrival would complement the presence of Marc Klok, forming a strong duo in the center of the pitch. Persib already features a blend of experienced and promising midfielders such as Thom Haye, Luciano Guaycochea, Adam Alis, Robi Darwis, and Nazriel Alfaro, and adding Pelupessy could elevate the team’s depth and competitiveness across multiple competitions.
A move to Indonesia would also open the door for Pelupessy to contribute to the national team in the AFF Championship. The tournament is scheduled during the domestic league break, making his participation feasible if he is based in Indonesia. Remaining in Europe, however, would make a national team call-up unlikely due to scheduling conflicts with the Belgian second-tier season. His possible transfer is therefore seen as beneficial not only for Persib but also for Indonesia’s broader football ambitions.
