Indonesia U-23 Faces Setback as Marselino Ferdinan Withdraws from 2025 SEA Games
Indonesia’s U-23 national team faces an early setback ahead of the 2025 SEA Games after Marselino Ferdinan was ruled out of the tournament. The midfielder, who plays for AS Trencin, had been scheduled to join the squad in Thailand but was unable to travel due to a hamstring injury detected shortly before departure.

Medical assessments indicated that Marselino requires a minimum of ten days of rest, making his participation impossible given the team’s preparation timeline. His absence removes one of Indonesia’s most dynamic young players from the roster, affecting the team’s initial tactical plans.

To fill the gap left by Marselino, PSSI swiftly called up Persik Kediri’s young defender, Rifqi Ray. The 21-year-old is expected to travel to Thailand as soon as possible so he can integrate with the squad before the opening match. The coaching staff selected him based on their current strategic needs.

While the team adjusts to this last-minute change, there is positive news with Ivar Jenner’s arrival in Thailand. The FC Utrecht midfielder is expected to play a key role for the Garuda Muda throughout the tournament and strengthen the squad’s midfield stability.

With Marselino sidelined, Indonesia will now rely on only three of the four overseas-based players originally planned for the competition. Mauro Zijlstra and Dion Marks have already joined the team in Chiang Mai, forming the core group of diaspora players available for the SEA Games campaign.
