Barcelona at Risk of Losing Dortmund Defender Target as Interest Shifts Toward Real Madrid and Bayern

Barcelona have placed the search for a reliable centre-back at the top of their 2026 transfer priorities, as the current options have provided limited consistency this season. Among the players they have evaluated, one major target now appears more inclined toward a move to Real Madrid than to Catalonia, creating uncertainty around the club’s defensive plans.
Sporting Director Deco has acknowledged that the club have analyzed multiple candidates, including Marc Guehi, though competition for the English defender is intense. Barcelona are not considered front-runners for his signature, making the pursuit increasingly challenging as other clubs position themselves as stronger contenders.
The Catalan side are also monitoring Gonçalo Inácio, but recent speculation suggests that Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund has been of particular interest. However, new information from Germany indicates that Schlotterbeck is leaning toward future opportunities with Bayern Munich or Real Madrid rather than Barcelona.
Dortmund, meanwhile, face growing uncertainty as the defender has yet to commit to a contract renewal that runs until 2027. The club are prepared to improve their offer but want clarity by late December or January, suggesting internal concern that the player may choose not to extend his stay.
For Bayern, Schlotterbeck remains on a shortlist that depends heavily on whether Dayot Upamecano secures a new contract. Should the French defender stay, Bayern are expected to look for a younger option instead. Any potential move for Schlotterbeck is likely to materialize only if he opts to bring his Dortmund spell to a close before 2026.
