Milan Set Sights on Defensive Reinforcements as January Moves Heat Up

AC Milan is reportedly preparing a focused push to strengthen their defense in the upcoming January transfer window, with Tarik Muharemovic and Jay Idzes emerging as the club’s primary targets. The need for reinforcements has grown urgent due to the team’s limited squad depth and a string of injuries that continue to disrupt stability across their back line.

The current rotation leaves Milan heavily dependent on their main trio of Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia, and Strahinja Pavlovic, who have been nearly ever-present this season. Koni De Winter remains the primary alternative, while David Odogu sees minimal involvement. These circumstances have increased pressure on the club to add fresh defensive options capable of offering both quality and reliability.

Discussions within the club have occasionally revisited the idea of bringing back Thiago Silva, but the notion appears more like an internal suggestion than a serious plan. Instead, Milan’s recruitment focus has shifted firmly toward two young defenders from Sassuolo, whose performances this season have drawn the attention of several Serie A giants.

Both Muharemovic and Idzes have impressed with their composure and consistency, making them attractive candidates for Milan’s rebuilding efforts. Their recent standout displays sparked further interest from the Rossoneri, prompting a club scout to attend the Sassuolo vs. Fiorentina match at MAPEI Stadium last weekend to observe the pair closely during a demanding fixture.

Idzes, in particular, has been on Milan’s radar since his time at Venezia before his summer move to Sassuolo. With both players continuing to progress, the January window presents a crucial opportunity for Milan to secure needed defensive reinforcements and stabilize their squad for the second half of the season.
