Nova Arianto Accelerates U-20 Team Build as Hunt for Indonesia’s Next Young Stars Begins

Indonesia U-20 coach Nova Arianto has started shaping the foundation of his new squad by launching a two-phase training camp designed to identify emerging talent. The program marks the first major step toward assembling a competitive team for upcoming international tournaments, offering young players an early opportunity to showcase their potential under his leadership.
A total of 46 players were invited to the selection camp held at Garudayaksa Football Academy from 2 to 10 December 2025. The sessions were split into two groups, allowing Nova to observe players more closely as he familiarizes himself with the 2007-born generation. The focus of this early stage is not solely on physical or technical attributes but on broader qualities that align with the team’s intended style of play.
Nova emphasized that his evaluation process does not consider club pedigree or player background. Instead, he aims to find individuals who can adapt to the tactical identity he plans to implement. The expectation is that every participant will demonstrate their ability to fit into the system, understand the gameplay philosophy, and meet the standards required for the national team’s long-term development.
Beyond the immediate selection, Nova and PSSI technical director Alexander Zwiers have outlined a larger preparation plan for the year ahead. This includes arranging eleven friendly matches as part of the build-up toward the 2027 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualifiers. These fixtures will serve as key testing grounds to refine the squad and strengthen its competitive readiness.
Looking ahead, further training camps are scheduled for January or March, following the roadmap submitted to PSSI. Nova anticipates that consistent planning and structured preparation will give the team the best possible foundation as it works toward major regional and continental objectives in the coming years.
