Lingard Set for Malaysia Move as JDT Beat Persib to Former Man United Star

Jesse Lingard is edging closer to a move to Malaysian giants Johor Darul Ta’zim, ending speculation that linked him with Persib Bandung. The 33-year-old winger has become a free agent after parting ways with South Korean side FC Seoul, opening the door for a new chapter in Southeast Asian football. Reports from Malaysia suggest JDT have moved decisively to secure his signature.
Lingard’s name has reportedly appeared on JDT’s official platforms, strengthening indications that negotiations are at an advanced stage. The reigning champions of the Malaysia Super League, who have dominated domestically for years, are seen as an attractive destination due to their ambition and strong financial backing. This has given them a clear edge over other interested clubs.
Persib Bandung had been heavily linked with Lingard following changes in their attacking options. Given Persib’s growing financial power, signing a player of Lingard’s profile was considered realistic. However, JDT’s aggressive approach and continental ambitions appear to have shifted the balance firmly in their favor.
During his spell with FC Seoul, Lingard delivered a productive season, contributing consistently across competitions. His tally of goals and assists underlined his influence, although it ultimately was not enough to lift Seoul into an Asian club competition for the following season. Despite that setback, his performances reaffirmed his value in the market.
Meanwhile, Persib continue to explore alternatives ahead of the January 2026 transfer window. Several names remain under consideration, including players with international experience, as the club looks to strengthen its squad strategically. While Lingard now seems destined for Malaysia, Persib’s recruitment plans remain active as they aim to build a competitive team for the future.
