China Eyes Friendly Match Against Indonesia as PSSI Weighs November 2026 Plan

China has expressed interest in arranging an international friendly match against the Indonesian national team during the FIFA Matchday window in November 2026. The proposal has drawn attention as Indonesia continues to shape its long-term agenda under a new coaching setup and evolving competitive priorities.
The Indonesian Football Association has not yet made a final decision regarding the invitation. While the opportunity could offer valuable international exposure, considerations around scheduling, preparation cycles, and competitive balance remain central before any agreement is reached.
The last meeting between Indonesia and China took place in October 2024 during the third round of the Asian zone qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. That encounter ended in a narrow defeat for Indonesia, despite a late goal that added tension to the match. At the time, the Indonesian side was still under different leadership, reflecting how much has changed since then.
Looking ahead, Indonesia’s immediate focus lies with its first competitive appearances under head coach John Herdman. These matches will take place during the FIFA Series scheduled for late March, marking an important early test for the team’s new direction and tactical identity.
Indonesia has also been selected as one of the host nations for the men’s FIFA Series 2026, with Jakarta set to welcome several international teams. The tournament will feature Bulgaria, Solomon Islands, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, providing Indonesia with a valuable platform to build cohesion and measure progress against varied opposition before making decisions on future friendlies such as the proposed clash with China.
