Persib Strengthens Attack with the Signing of Spanish Striker Sergio Castel
Persib Bandung officially confirmed the arrival of Sergio Castel during the mid-season transfer window, bringing in the Spanish forward to reinforce their attacking line. The club sees the 30-year-old striker as an important addition to increase their goal-scoring threat as the season enters a decisive phase.
Before joining Persib, Castel played for Apollon Limassol. His contract with the Cypriot side expired at the end of January 2026, allowing him to move on a free transfer. The deal with Persib runs until the end of the 2025-26 season, giving the coaching staff an experienced option in the forward position.
The announcement of the signing was made through the club’s official media channels, marking the formal introduction of the player to supporters. Management explained that Castel’s recruitment followed a direct recommendation from head coach Bojan Hodak, who considered the striker suitable to sharpen the team’s finishing and add variety to the attacking setup.
Despite leading the league standings, Persib’s attacking efficiency has at times been viewed as less than optimal, which influenced the decision to seek another forward. Castel, standing at 188 centimeters and known for his physical presence, is expected to provide a different dimension in attack and help the team remain competitive in both domestic and continental competitions.
However, his arrival also creates an interesting situation within the squad. The addition raises the number of foreign players beyond the registration limit set for the 2025-26 Super League season, meaning the club will need to make adjustments to comply with league regulations. This development adds another layer of intrigue as supporters wait to see how Castel’s presence will reshape the team in the months ahead.
