AC Milan Begin Major Overhaul After Champions League Collapse
AC Milan made sweeping changes following a disastrous end to the 2025/2026 Serie A season, officially parting ways with head coach Massimiliano Allegri and several top executives. The club announced the decision shortly after a painful 2-1 defeat to Cagliari that cost Milan a place in next season's Champions League.
The Rossoneri entered the final matchday in a strong position and needed only a single point to secure a top-four finish. Despite taking the lead at San Siro, Milan failed to hold their advantage and suffered a shocking defeat against a Cagliari side with little left to play for.
In an unusually strong official statement, the club described the season as an undeniable failure. Milan admitted that their original target was to return to the Champions League while building a stable foundation to compete consistently for Serie A titles, but a dramatic decline in form late in the campaign destroyed those ambitions.
Alongside Allegri, the club also dismissed CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada. Reports from Italy had already suggested that owner Gerry Cardinale was preparing a major restructuring inside the club, and the changes were confirmed immediately after the season ended.
While several important figures were removed, Zlatan Ibrahimović remains involved as a senior advisor and is expected to help lead Milan's rebuilding process. The club will now begin searching for a new coach and management team as they attempt to recover from one of their most disappointing seasons in recent years.
