AS Roma Targets Mason Greenwood as Aston Villa Pushes for Matias Soulé
AS Roma is preparing an ambitious move in the summer transfer market by targeting Marseille winger Mason Greenwood. The Italian club sees the former English talent as a potential replacement for Matias Soulé, who has recently attracted strong interest from Aston Villa ahead of the new season.
Roma is reportedly focused on strengthening its attacking options and has already made initial contact with Greenwood's representatives. Early indications suggest the player is open to the idea of joining the Serie A side and continuing his career at the Stadio Olimpico. The move is viewed as part of Roma's effort to refresh its frontline with younger and more dynamic attacking players.
Despite the positive response from Greenwood's camp, Roma still faces a major obstacle in negotiations with Marseille. The French club is believed to value the winger at around €50 million, while Greenwood remains under a long-term contract until 2029. This situation could force Roma to carefully structure any potential offer in order to make the deal financially possible.
At the same time, Roma may also experience several changes within the current squad. Stephan El Shaarawy is expected to leave once his contract expires in June, while Matias Soulé could also depart if Aston Villa submits an improved offer. Although interest from the Premier League side is genuine, Roma reportedly wants a transfer fee between €35 million and €40 million before considering a sale.
Greenwood's arrival would be expected to add creativity, speed, and finishing ability to Roma's attack as the club aims to become more competitive next season. However, the transfer will depend heavily on Roma's ability to balance player sales, negotiate with Marseille, and complete the deal before the transfer window closes.
