World Cup Hat-Tricks Through History: 55 Trebles, Legendary Records, and Unmatched Feat

Recently, foreign media compiled every World Cup hat-trick from the inaugural tournament in Uruguay in 1930 through the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. During this period, a total of 55 hat-tricks have been recorded in World Cup history.
According to the statistics, only two players have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final: England striker Geoff Hurst, who achieved the feat during England's home triumph in 1966, and French superstar Kylian Mbappé, who netted three goals against Argentina in the 2022 final.
Argentine legend Gabriel Batistuta remains a unique figure in football history. He scored World Cup hat-tricks in both the 1994 and 1998 tournaments, a feat that no other player has matched.
Only three players have recorded two hat-tricks in a single World Cup edition: French forward Just Fontaine in 1958, German striker Gerd Müller in 1970, and Hungarian forward Sándor Kocsis in 1954.
World Cup history has also witnessed some extraordinary individual scoring performances. Russian forward Oleg Salenko scored five goals against Cameroon at the 1994 World Cup, setting the record for the most goals scored by a player in a single World Cup match. Meanwhile, players such as Eusébio, Emilio Butragueño, Ademir de Menezes, and Sándor Kocsis have each scored four goals in a World Cup match.
The 1954 FIFA World Cup remains the most prolific tournament for hat-tricks, producing eight in total. One of its most remarkable matches saw both Austria and Switzerland have a player score a hat-trick in the same game. In contrast, the 2006 FIFA World Cup stands as the only World Cup tournament in history without a single hat-trick during the finals.
From a national team perspective, Germany leads the all-time standings with seven World Cup hat-tricks scored by its players. Hungary follows with five, while Argentina and Portugal have recorded four each. Brazil, England, Poland, Uruguay, and France have each contributed three hat-tricks.
Looking from the defensive side, South Korea, Germany, Belgium, and Poland are among the teams that have most frequently conceded hat-tricks, having seen opposing players score three or more goals against them on multiple occasions during major international tournaments.
