Inter Milan Closes a Memorable Era as Three Veteran Stars Depart

Inter Milan has officially parted ways with Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, and Matteo Darmian after their contracts expired, bringing an end to the careers of three experienced players who played major roles in the club's recent success. Their departures mark a significant transition for the Nerazzurri as they prepare for a new chapter.

Sommer leaves after joining the club in 2023 and quickly establishing himself as Inter's first-choice goalkeeper. During his three seasons in Milan, he made 139 appearances across all competitions, including 100 Serie A matches, while helping the club win two league titles, the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana, and reach the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League final.

Acerbi also concludes a highly successful spell with Inter after arriving in 2022. The experienced central defender featured in 148 matches in all competitions and became a cornerstone of the club's defense, contributing to multiple domestic trophies while reaching two Champions League finals during his time with the team.

Darmian's departure ends a six-season journey at San Siro. The versatile defender accumulated 218 appearances in all competitions and played an important role in one of the club's most successful periods, collecting three Serie A titles, several domestic cups, and two appearances in the Champions League final.

Inter are also facing uncertainty over Stefan de Vrij, whose contract has expired as well. Although the Dutch defender was previously offered an extension, recent reports suggest he could continue his career with Panathinaikos, signaling a broader reshaping of Inter Milan's experienced defensive unit.
