Egypt FA Accuses FIFA of Unfair Refereeing After Controversial World Cup Defeat to Argentina

Egypt FA Accuses FIFA of Unfair Refereeing After Controversial World Cup Defeat to Argentina

Regarding the controversial refereeing decisions during Egypt’s 3-2 defeat to Argentina in the World Cup Round of 16, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has once again criticized FIFA and the match officials.

In a statement, the EFA said: “The Egyptian Football Association cannot remain silent in the face of the refereeing decisions made during the match against Argentina, as well as the insufficient use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).”

The EFA then reiterated the criticism previously made by head coach Hossam Hassan and goalscorer Mostafa Zico regarding FIFA: “Several key decisions have raised serious concerns and led to fundamental questions about the consistency and fairness of officiating. These decisions directly affected the course of the match.”

The statement continued: “Everything that happened during the game naturally left our players, coaching staff, and supporters extremely frustrated. They deserved to see the highest standards of refereeing on football’s biggest stage.”

The Egyptian Football Association concluded by once again emphasizing that Egypt had been treated unfairly: “Every player wearing the Egyptian national team jersey, and every fan who supports this team, deserves fairness, respect, and the equal application of football’s rules.”
