Jorge Jesus Set to Lead Portugal After World Cup Exit

Portugal are reportedly close to appointing Jorge Jesus as their new national team head coach following Roberto Martinez's departure after the country's disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign. An official announcement is expected soon as the Portuguese Football Federation finalizes the appointment.

The experienced Portuguese manager is believed to have agreed to a four-year contract that will keep him in charge through Euro 2028 and the 2030 World Cup, which Portugal will co-host with Spain and Morocco. One of his first major objectives will be to defend Portugal's UEFA Nations League title.

Although this will be his first role in international football, Jorge Jesus has built an impressive coaching career spanning more than three decades. He established himself as one of Portugal's most respected managers through successful spells at several top clubs across Europe, South America, and the Middle East.

In recent years, Jesus has managed Fenerbahce, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr, winning domestic league titles in Saudi Arabia. During his time at Al Nassr, he also worked alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, adding another high-profile chapter to his coaching career.

His greatest achievements came with Flamengo, where he guided the Brazilian club to multiple major trophies in a short period, including the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian league title. He also enjoyed significant success in Portugal with Braga, Benfica, and Sporting CP, making him one of the country's most accomplished managers before taking on his first national team assignment.
