Raffaele Palladino Emerges as Leading Candidate for Italy National Team Job

Raffaele Palladino has emerged as a strong contender to become the next head coach of the Italy national team following his departure from Atalanta. The 42-year-old manager is currently without a club, making him an attractive option as the Italian Football Federation continues its search for a new leader.

Italy's coaching search is reportedly being overseen by technical director Paolo Maldini, with Leonardo serving in an advisory role. While experienced names such as Andrea Pirlo, Roberto Mancini, and Antonio Conte have been linked with the position, Palladino is now gaining serious attention as a promising alternative.

Palladino began his managerial career with Monza in 2022 before taking charge of Fiorentina during the 2024/25 season. His impressive spell included guiding the club to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals, further enhancing his reputation as one of Italy's brightest young coaches.

In November 2025, Palladino was appointed Atalanta manager after replacing Ivan Juric. He successfully led the club away from the relegation battle, secured qualification for the UEFA Conference League, and reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals before stepping down because of differences over the club's long-term direction.

With a growing track record and a modern tactical approach, Palladino is now viewed as a realistic candidate to lead the Azzurri into a new era. His ability to develop teams and deliver results has made him one of the most closely watched coaches in Italian football.
