Marselino Ferdinan Faces Uncertain Club Future as Injury Recovery Takes Priority
Marselino Ferdinan remains without a clear club situation ahead of the 2026/2027 season as the summer transfer window approaches its conclusion. The 21-year-old Indonesian midfielder is currently focused on recovering from a knee injury that required surgery, making his immediate playing future even more uncertain.
The injury prevented Marselino from featuring for Indonesia during the 2026 ASEAN Championship. He suffered the problem before the tournament and subsequently underwent an operation after the competition. For now, his main priority is completing his rehabilitation properly and regaining full fitness before making an important decision about his club career.
Marselino’s situation with Oxford United is also unclear despite previously receiving a contract extension at the end of last season. His name remains listed in Oxford’s first-team squad on the club’s official website, but reports indicate that he may not be part of manager Aaron Ramsey’s plans for the 2026/2027 League One campaign. This could make regular playing opportunities in England difficult to secure.
The midfielder is currently the only member of Indonesia’s 2026 ASEAN Championship squad whose club future remains unresolved. Other players who previously faced similar uncertainty have already found new destinations, with goalkeeper Muhammad Riyandi joining Dewa United and Ivar Jenner also moving to the same club after leaving FC Utrecht.
For Marselino, finding a new team may have to wait until his physical condition improves. Returning to full fitness will be crucial before he evaluates his next career move, particularly after a difficult period affected by injury and limited opportunities. Once he is ready to compete again, the former Persebaya academy player will need to decide which club can offer the best environment for his development and regular first-team football.
