Bruno Fernandes Crowned PFA Players’ Player of the Year After Record-Breaking Season
Bruno Fernandes has been named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year following a remarkable 2025/2026 campaign with Manchester United. The Portuguese midfielder beat strong competition from Declan Rice, Gabriel Magalhaes, David Raya, Rayan Cherki, and Erling Haaland to claim one of the most prestigious individual awards in English football.
Fernandes enjoyed an outstanding Premier League season, producing 21 assists and breaking the previous record of 20 assists jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. He also scored nine goals, playing a major role in United’s impressive third-place finish. His performances earned him a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year as well.
The award adds to an extraordinary collection of individual honours for the 31-year-old captain. Fernandes had already been recognized as the Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, while he also won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a record fifth time.
His achievements are even more significant considering that Fernandes came close to leaving Old Trafford during the summer of 2025. Several Saudi Pro League clubs reportedly made lucrative offers for the midfielder, but he chose to remain with Manchester United. Since arriving at the club in 2020, he has established himself as one of its most influential players and a central figure in its rebuilding process.
Fernandes’ impact has also extended beyond his performances on the pitch. As captain, he has taken an active role in supporting younger academy players and helping them understand the responsibilities that come with representing Manchester United. With another major individual honour now added to his collection, Fernandes remains determined to achieve the one major goal that has eluded him at Old Trafford: winning the Premier League title.
