Ajax Land Simon Adingra on Loan as Ivorian Winger Takes Aim at a Fresh Start in Amsterdam

Ajax have officially completed the signing of Sunderland winger Simon Adingra on a season-long loan deal. The Dutch giants will pay €3.8 million for the temporary move, while the agreement also includes an option to make the transfer permanent for €16 million at the end of the 2026/27 season.

The transfer was briefly complicated by an issue during Adingra's second medical examination, when a minor injury was detected. However, the setback did not prevent the move from going through, allowing the 24-year-old Ivory Coast international to begin a new chapter with one of the Netherlands' most successful clubs.

Ajax view Adingra as a strong addition to their attacking options, particularly because of his pace, ability to take on defenders and movement in the final third. His qualities are expected to give the team another attacking dimension, while his experience at the highest level of English football should help him adapt to the demands of his new club.

Adingra developed his football skills at the Right to Dream Academy before making his way into European football. Sunderland signed him from Brighton in the summer of 2025, after which he spent the second half of last season on loan at Monaco, where he produced four goals and three assists. His arrival in Amsterdam will also see him reunite with former Monaco teammates Caio Henrique and Thilo Kehrer.

For Ajax, the deal represents an opportunity to strengthen the squad without immediately committing to a permanent transfer. If Adingra performs well throughout the season, the club can exercise the €16 million purchase option and secure his services on a long-term basis. The winger will now look to prove that he can become an important part of Ajax's attacking plans.
