Elkan Baggott Earns Greater Trust at Millwall

Elkan Baggott is beginning to establish himself at Millwall after making a permanent move from Ipswich Town in the summer of 2026. Since joining the Championship club on July 15, the 23-year-old defender has increasingly featured in Alex Neil's plans. He has already made five appearances across all competitions in less than two months, collecting 272 minutes of playing time.

Baggott has featured twice in the Carabao Cup and three times in the Championship during the early stages of the season. His latest opportunity came against Newcastle United in the third round of the Carabao Cup, where he started and played the full 90 minutes at The Den. Millwall ultimately suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat after Joseph Willock scored in the 81st minute, bringing their cup campaign to an end.

Despite the result, Baggott produced a solid individual display and was deployed at left-back. He recorded 30 touches, created one major chance, and completed five defensive actions, including a block, three clearances, an interception, and a recovery. His performance earned a 6.4 rating from FotMob and provided another indication that he can contribute when given opportunities at different positions.

His involvement had already been growing before the Newcastle match. Baggott started and completed the full game in Millwall's 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Cambridge on August 26, while his Championship debut came against Southampton, where he played 19 minutes as a second-half substitute in a 5-1 defeat. He later started against Wrexham before being replaced in the 64th minute, then made a brief nine-minute appearance against Bolton Wanderers in a 4-0 victory.

The increased playing time is also significant for Baggott at international level. After previously falling out of Indonesia's senior plans under Shin Tae-yong and Patrick Kluivert, the defender has returned to consideration under John Herdman. His growing role at Millwall could provide valuable momentum as he looks to regain consistency, strengthen his position in the club squad, and establish himself once again as an important option for Indonesia.
