Messi Set to Take Over Spanish Second-Tier Club Eldense

Lionel Messi is reportedly close to completing a major move into football club ownership after reaching an agreement in principle to acquire all shares of Spanish second-tier side CD Eldense. The proposed takeover involves the club's majority owner, Colombian investment group TH Soluciones Group S.A.S., with the deal expected to be officially announced once it receives approval from Spain's Higher Sports Council.

The potential acquisition would further expand Messi's growing presence in the football business. The Argentine star recently stepped away from international duties and has increasingly turned his attention toward building a portfolio of investments in professional football. Earlier in 2026, he also acquired fifth-tier Spanish club UE Cornella and is expected to receive a stake in MLS club Inter Miami after his playing contract in the United States comes to an end.

Based in Elda, Alicante, CD Eldense have spent much of their history in Spain's lower divisions. However, increased investment has helped the club compete in the second tier during three of the past four seasons. Messi's proposed takeover could provide another significant financial boost as Eldense attempt to establish themselves more firmly within Spain's professional football structure.

The timing of the reported acquisition comes during a difficult period for Eldense. The club recently dismissed manager Claudio Barragan after collecting only two points from their opening four league matches. That poor start has left the team near the bottom of the standings, creating an immediate sporting challenge for whoever takes control of the club.

If completed, the takeover would mark another important step in Messi's transition from football superstar to influential club owner and investor.
