Luis de la Fuente Extends Spain Stay Until 2032 After Remarkable Trophy Run

Luis de la Fuente has agreed to extend his contract as Spain head coach until 2032, securing his position beyond the original 2028 expiry date. The new agreement means he is set to remain in charge as La Roja prepares to defend their World Cup title on home soil in 2030, providing continuity during an important period for Spanish football.

De la Fuente has enjoyed an outstanding spell since taking over from Luis Enrique in December 2022. Under his leadership, Spain won the 2024 European Championship before adding the 2026 World Cup to their trophy cabinet. He has suffered only two defeats in 41 competitive matches while also guiding the national team to success in the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League.

The contract extension reflects the confidence placed in De la Fuente after a highly successful period with the senior side. His connection with the Spanish federation also runs much deeper than his time as head coach, having spent 14 years within the national-team structure and previously worked with several youth sides.

RFEF president Rafael Louzan confirmed the new agreement during the World Football Summit in Madrid and highlighted De la Fuente’s long-term contribution to Spanish football. The new deal is also expected to improve his financial standing within the federation, bringing his salary closer to the level of other leading figures in the organization.

Spain will now begin preparing for another demanding international cycle under De la Fuente. Their next major challenge comes on September 26, when they travel to Wembley to face England in the opening match of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League, marking the start of their campaign toward the next phase of international competition.
