Tottenham Face £10m Compensation Bill if Roberto De Zerbi Is Dismissed
Tottenham Hotspur could face a significant financial setback if they decide to part ways with Roberto De Zerbi after a difficult opening to the new Premier League season. The Italian manager arrived with strong backing during the summer transfer window, but Spurs now find themselves at the bottom of the league table after five matches, raising early questions about his position.
De Zerbi’s situation has become a talking point sooner than expected, particularly given the scale of Tottenham’s commitment to their new project. The club invested heavily in reshaping the squad during the summer, making a managerial change after only a handful of league games potentially disruptive both on the pitch and behind the scenes.
Football finance expert Stefan Borson estimates that Tottenham could have to pay around £10 million in compensation if De Zerbi is dismissed. The club would then face another substantial expense to appoint a replacement, meaning the total cost of making a managerial change could reach approximately £20 million.
The pressure has increased following Tottenham’s poor results, including their defeat against Aston Villa. De Zerbi has also reportedly experienced difficulties in the aftermath of that loss, highlighting the challenging atmosphere surrounding the team. However, despite the disappointing start, there is currently little indication that Tottenham's hierarchy is prepared to abandon the project.
Borson believes the club are still committed to supporting De Zerbi and are unlikely to consider terminating his contract in the immediate future. With significant financial investment already made in the manager and squad, Tottenham appear more inclined to give the Italian time to turn the situation around, although the direction of the season could determine how long that patience lasts.
