Persija Loan Out Van Basty Sousa to Borneo FC Ahead of 2026/27 Super League Season

Persija Jakarta have decided to loan Brazilian midfielder Van Basty Sousa to Borneo FC for the 2026/27 Super League campaign. The move is aimed at giving the 31-year-old more regular playing opportunities while allowing Persija to manage their squad composition ahead of the new season.

The decision comes as something of a surprise, particularly because Sousa had only recently extended his contract with Persija at the end of last season. During his time with the Jakarta-based club, he made 29 appearances and became an important figure in midfield, helping the team maintain balance and control during matches.

Sousa also made a noticeable contribution in attack. He scored against Dewa United FC and provided three assists during games against Persita Tangerang, Bali United and Persik Kediri. His performances showed his value as a midfielder capable of contributing both defensively and in the build-up to goals.

With Sousa moving to Borneo FC on loan, Persija already have several options ready to fill the gap in midfield. Fabio Calonego, Kyohei Yoshino, Figo Denis and Stjepan Loncar are among the players expected to provide depth and maintain competition for places in the centre of the pitch.

The loan is expected to benefit both Sousa and Persija in the long run. A regular role at Borneo FC should give the experienced midfielder valuable minutes and another competitive environment in the top flight.
