Graham Potter Keen on Return to Management, Dismisses England Role Speculation

Graham Potter, the former Chelsea manager, has expressed his readiness to return to football management but has downplayed links to the England national team job. This comes after Gareth Southgate's resignation following England's 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

Potter, 49, who has been out of management since being sacked by Chelsea in April 2023, acknowledged the speculation but emphasized his current focus on finding the right club opportunity. "Now I'm in that good place where I'm happy to be ready and looking forward to the next challenge," Potter said. He shared that he had taken a break to reflect and re-energize after his extensive career journey, which included managing in three different countries.

While speaking at Leeds Beckett University, where he received an honorary doctorate, Potter was asked about the England job. He chose to honor Southgate's tenure instead, stating, "Southgate has done a fantastic job and there isn't anyone in the country more respected in football than Gareth."

The Football Association is actively searching for Southgate's successor, with names like Newcastle's Eddie Howe and England Under-21 coach Lee Carsley also in consideration. Southgate, who led England to a World Cup quarter-final, semi-final, and two consecutive Euros finals, announced his resignation to pave the way for a new chapter.

Potter, whose managerial career began in 2008 at Leeds Carnegie, has spoken to several clubs and is waiting for the right opportunity to make his return to the dugout. He remains optimistic and excited about the future challenges in football management.
