Indonesia National Team Set to Face Russia in September 2025 Friendly Match?

The Indonesian national football team is reportedly set to face Russia in a friendly match scheduled for September 2025. The idea for this match was initially raised by Denis Manturov, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Football Federation, who expressed Russia's intention to arrange a friendly against Indonesia. This announcement sparked discussions between the Russian Football Federation (RFU) and the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI).
Although PSSI is aware of Russia's plans for the friendly, they have yet to receive an official invitation from the RFU. As of now, no formal confirmation has been made regarding the match, leaving its scheduling uncertain. The match could potentially take place in September 2025, depending on the Indonesian national team's availability, as they are set to participate in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June 2025.
Russia, which has been banned from international competitions following the military conflict in Ukraine, has only played friendly matches in recent years. Their most recent games include victories over Grenada and Zambia. While the return of Russia to European competitions is being discussed, the proposed match with Indonesia could mark a significant event in both teams' international calendars. However, PSSI's confirmation is still awaited before any final plans are made.
