Semen Padang Requests Foreign Referees for Critical Matches; LIB Responds Positively

Semen Padang FC has formally requested PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) to consider appointing foreign referees for the upcoming crucial matches in Liga 1 2024/2025. The club, which is currently struggling near the relegation zone, emphasized that several matches involving teams at risk of dropping out of the league could benefit from impartial officiating. Semen Padang proposed that these high-stakes games be overseen by referees from outside Indonesia to ensure fairness, citing the tense atmosphere surrounding the relegation battle.
The club's management met with LIB officials to discuss the potential involvement of foreign referees, particularly for matches that could determine relegation. In response, LIB welcomed the suggestion and assured that it would continue to prioritize professional standards in officiating. LIB’s CEO, Ferry Paulus, emphasized that since PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir's leadership, Indonesian football has embraced significant improvements, ensuring that competitions are organized to meet FIFA standards.
Ferry Paulus further clarified that LIB is committed to maintaining professionalism throughout the competition, ensuring that competent referees are assigned to crucial matches. He also confirmed that, under PSSI’s guidance, the league has been attentive to the importance of these high-pressure games, including the possibility of appointing foreign referees when necessary.
