Djenna de Jong Withdraws from Indonesia Women's National Team: What Happened?

Djenna de Jong, a Dutch-Indonesian footballer, has decided to step back from her intention to represent Indonesia’s Women’s National Team. The decision comes after she voiced concerns over what she described as unprofessional and unfair treatment during the selection process. Djenna, whose mother is from Sorong, Papua Barat, and whose grandfather hails from Java, had initially hoped to join the team but chose to withdraw after considering various aspects of her football career.
Djenna’s decision followed her experience of being sidelined due to injury during key selection periods, which prevented her from showing her abilities to the coaching staff. While she expressed dissatisfaction with how she was treated, particularly in terms of professionalism, her departure was not solely based on her personal experiences but also the lack of opportunity to prove herself on the field. She emphasized that the treatment she received was not what she had expected from the team and decided that it was time to move on.
In response, VivinCahyani, a member of PSSI’s executive committee, clarified that the decision not to select Djenna was based on her injury history and her inability to participate in important training sessions. Vivin explained that Djenna had been invited for trials twice, but was unable to demonstrate her skills due to ongoing injuries. PSSI has stated that all player selections are made transparently and under the guidance of head coach Satoru Mochizuki, and they respect Djenna’s decision not to pursue playing for Indonesia further.
