Exciting Draw in East Java Derby: Arema vs Persebaya

The highly anticipated East Java Derby between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya ended in a 1-1 draw in the 2024-25 Liga 1 season. The match, held at Kapten I WayanDipta Stadium in Gianyar, Bali, saw both teams share the spoils after a hard-fought encounter. Arema initially took the lead in the 70th minute thanks to a goal from Thales, who capitalized on a pass from Charles Lokolingoy. However, Persebaya quickly responded with a penalty goal from Bruno in the 78th minute, ensuring the game finished level.
Persebaya was the more dominant team in terms of chances, creating 16 attempts with 7 on target, compared to Arema’s 12 shots and 4 on target. Despite their superior shot accuracy of 70%, Persebaya struggled to find the back of the net from open play, while Arema scored through a well-executed play. Both teams played aggressively, but the lack of goals from open play prevented Persebaya from gaining a decisive advantage.
With this result, Persebaya remained third in the league standings with 53 points, unable to surpass Dewa United, who holds the second spot due to better goal difference. Arema, on the other hand, earned a valuable point but remained in 10th place with 43 points, with a record of 12 wins, 7 draws, and 11 losses. The draw left both teams with mixed feelings as they continue their campaigns in Liga 1.
