Cristiano Ronaldo's Future at Al Nassr in Doubt, Potential Move to Al Hilal Ahead of Club World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Al Nassr is currently uncertain, as he reportedly grows frustrated with the club’s direction. Despite impressive personal statistics, including 97 goals in 107 appearances, Ronaldo has become disillusioned with the team's lack of success in the Saudi Pro League and the AFC Champions League over the past two and a half years. His frustration peaked toward the end of 2024, especially after a series of underwhelming results, including an early exit from the Champions League and failure to win the domestic league.
Ronaldo’s discontent led him to push for a managerial change and even attempt to convince his former coach, Carlo Ancelotti, to join him in the Middle East. However, with the possibility of Stefano Pioli being dismissed and Al Nassr’s continued struggles, Ronaldo is reportedly considering a move to their rival club, Al Hilal. This would position him to represent Saudi Arabia at the 2025 Club World Cup in the United States, where Al Hilal is set to face Real Madrid in the opening match.
The potential transfer to Al Hilal has stirred rumors, with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund exploring the possibility to strengthen the country’s representation at the prestigious tournament. There are also speculations surrounding geopolitical motivations, with the involvement of former US President Donald Trump, who is believed to be interested in the commercial and diplomatic appeal of having Ronaldo participate. Should the move happen, it could become one of the most controversial transfers in Middle Eastern football due to the fierce rivalry between Al Nassr and Al Hilal.
