President’s Cup 2025 to Feature International Clubs with Abroad Players

President’s Cup 2025 to Feature International Clubs with Abroad Players
The President's Cup 2025 will kick off ahead of the new Liga 1 season, introducing an exciting twist by inviting foreign clubs with players based abroad to participate. The tournament will not feature all Liga 1 teams; however, the defending champions, Persib Bandung, are expected to take part. The final list of participants is still under discussion, with plans for 4 local teams and 4 international teams, though the exact number of clubs is yet to be confirmed.

To make the tournament more appealing, the format of the President's Cup will differ from previous editions, with a focus on showcasing Indonesian players abroad. The idea is to bring these players back to Indonesia and allow their clubs to present them to the local audience. This initiative will also highlight the growing number of Indonesian footballers playing overseas, including prominent players like Thom Haye, Mees Hilger, and Pratama Arhan, among others.

The involvement of international clubs, such as Oxford and NEC, is being explored, though final details are still being worked out. The President’s Cup will be organized by PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), with PSSI leading the decision-making process regarding participants and other key elements of the tournament. This fresh approach aims to bring more excitement and visibility to Indonesian football, both domestically and internationally.
