Arema FC Shows Improvement but Keeps Squad Stable for Next Season

Arema FC ended the 2024-25 BRI Liga 1 season in 10th place with 47 points, falling short of their goal to finish in the top five. Despite this, the club made clear progress compared to the previous season, when they barely avoided relegation by finishing 15th. This season, they secured safety well before the end of the campaign and had opportunities to challenge for higher positions but ultimately lost crucial points in the second half.
The club’s general manager acknowledged the improvement in standings but expressed regret over the team’s inconsistent form during the latter part of the season. Although the team missed out on a top-five finish, management remains confident in the current squad’s capabilities and plans to keep most players intact for the upcoming season.
Several foreign players, including Lucas Frigeri, Thales Lira, and Julian Guevara, have had their contracts extended, while negotiations continue with Dalberto Luan. Locally, promising young talents such as Bayu Setiawan, Achmad Maulana, and Arkhan Fikri will remain part of the squad, reinforcing a strategy that favors continuity over drastic changes.
The club is still deciding on the head coach for the next season, understanding that the coach’s vision is crucial for shaping the team. Management is aiming to finalize this decision quickly, especially with the upcoming 2025 Piala Presiden tournament scheduled for July, which will require the team to start preparations under new or returning leadership.
