Koln Boss Kwasniok Hails Kompany and Undefeated Bayern: 'They Are Nearly Unbeatable'

Ahead of his team’s DFB-Pokal clash against Bayern Munich, Köln head coach Lukas Kwasniok surprisingly lavished praise upon his counterpart, Bayern manager Vincent Kompany.

Kwasniok’s admiration stems not just from Kompany’s high-profile status, but from a personal encounter. “I met him one evening during a coaching course, and he was extremely likable,” Kwasniok revealed. “He’s a giant, a bear—but with a very, very soft heart, and I want to be a person like him.”

Kwasniok’s praise extended to Kompany’s coaching impact, noting how the Belgian has revitalized the Bayern squad. "He brought his own desire to a team that might have been a bit jaded. The players are following that path because they see they can devour their opponents; they suffocate you."

The Köln boss conceded that overcoming Bayern is currently a monumental task. “It is currently almost impossible to beat Bayern Munich. That’s a fact, because they are so incredibly good,” Kwasniok continued. “I have rarely seen a top team willing to invest so much; they have the irrepressible will to win the treble.”

Kompany took over Bayern Munich in 2024 and immediately led them to a league title. This season, the former Belgian international remains undefeated across all three competitions
