Tottenham Planning New Deal and Pay Rise for Van de Ven, Hail Him and Romero as Top Center-Back Duo
Tottenham Hotspur is preparing to reward defender Micky van de Ven with a new contract and a significant pay rise, recognizing his status as one half of what the club considers one of the Premier League's best center-back partnerships, alongside Cristian Romero.
Romero became one of the club's top earners after signing a new deal this summer, and Spurs feel Van de Ven deserves similar recognition, especially following his spectacular solo goal in the recent Champions League victory over Copenhagen.
Although Van de Ven’s current contract still has three and a half years remaining, the club is determined to extend his commitment beyond 2029 and significantly increase his salary to reflect his importance to the team.
Since joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg two years ago for nearly $\text{\textsterling}45$ million, the 24-year-old has proven his quality as both a defender and an unlikely attacking threat. His solo goal against Copenhagen was his sixth across all competitions this season, making him the team's top scorer—a remarkable feat for a center-back.
Spurs officials internally believe that when both Romero and Van de Ven are fully fit and playing together, there is no better center-back pairing in the Premier League. The club is keen to build a formidable team around this strong defensive core.
