Seven Naturalized Malaysian Players Consider Legal Action Against FAM Over Contract Disputes

Seven naturalized players of the Malaysian national team are reportedly preparing to take legal action against the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) over alleged contract violations. These players, previously expected to strengthen the Harimau Malaya squad at the international level, claim they suffered losses due to the federation’s decisions and are seeking compensation.
The group, which includes Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garces, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Joao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal, and Hector Hevel, underwent naturalization earlier this year. FIFA later found irregularities in their documentation, resulting in a one-year playing ban for the players and fines totaling 2,000 Swiss francs per player, alongside a 350,000 Swiss franc penalty for FAM.
Following the sanctions, several of the affected players were suspended or had their club contracts terminated, leading to significant financial losses. The controversy has been described as one of the biggest naturalization scandals in Malaysian football history, causing both reputational and economic harm to the players involved.
With FAM acknowledging administrative errors in submitting the documents to FIFA, the players are now considering legal action. Consulting foreign lawyers, they aim to recover financial losses, restore their professional reputation, and facilitate opportunities to join new clubs after their suspensions end.
