Tottenham Probe Leaves Bissouma Facing Fresh Sanctions After Second Nitrous Oxide Incident
Yves Bissouma is once again at the center of controversy after Tottenham launched an internal investigation into allegations that he inhaled nitrous oxide for the second time. The Mali international had previously been involved in a similar incident and publicly apologized, but new footage circulated in November has revived questions about his conduct. The club is now reviewing the matter as potential grounds for disciplinary action.

The renewed scrutiny arrives during a difficult period for Bissouma, who has yet to play under manager Thomas Frank due to recurring knee and ankle injuries. He has been sidelined since undergoing ankle surgery in October, adding to an already disrupted season marked by earlier disciplinary issues, including repeated lateness before a UEFA Super Cup match against Paris Saint-Germain. His off-field situation now threatens to overshadow his recovery and return prospects.
This latest controversy mirrors an earlier case from the 2024/25 season, when former Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou issued a one-match suspension after Bissouma was first caught inhaling the substance. He later apologized for what he described as a severe lapse in judgment. However, a recent tabloid report suggests he was once again recorded inhaling nitrous oxide, raising concerns about repeated behavior.

Nitrous oxide was classified as a Class C drug in 2023 under the UK government's anti-social behaviour strategy, making its recreational possession illegal. Tottenham confirmed that the new incident is being investigated and emphasized that it will be treated as an internal matter. The club’s response indicates that further sanctions remain a strong possibility depending on the outcome of the review.

Bissouma, who last appeared for Spurs in a competitive match on May 25, has added fuel to speculation about his future by removing all references to the club from his official Instagram account. Combined with his injuries, disciplinary history, and the latest allegations, the developments have intensified uncertainty regarding his long-term role within the squad.
