Arsenal Can Still Sign Players Thanks to Premier League Rules

Even though the January transfer window has closed, Arsenal retains a small opportunity to finalize one more signing due to special Premier League regulations. This comes amid speculation surrounding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been training with the club’s U-21 squad for several months.
The Premier League allows clubs to register additional players outside the official transfer period if there are vacant spots in the 25-man senior squad. Arsenal currently has only 21 senior players registered, leaving space for potential short-term additions, while youth players such as Cristhian Mosquera and Myles Lewis-Skelly occupy U-21 slots.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is viewed as a potential solution, particularly after Mikel Merino suffered a leg injury requiring surgery. The midfielder, a former Liverpool and Arsenal player, has been a free agent since leaving Besiktas in the summer. The club is evaluating whether he could provide immediate reinforcement during a critical period of the season.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has emphasized that any new signing would need to adapt quickly and make an impact over the next four months, given the team’s busy schedule and the absence of key players. While Oxlade-Chamberlain remains an option, Arteta has also indicated that the club is exploring all possibilities before deciding on a final move.
In addition to these considerations, Arsenal completed two transfers on the final day of the January window, bringing in Evan Mooney and Jaden Dixon. Meanwhile, several players were loaned out or permanently departed, including Louie Copley, Ethan Nwaneri, Will Sweet, Maldini Kacurri, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Osman Kamara, as the club continues to adjust its squad for the remainder of the season.
