Gennaro Gattuso Close to Becoming Lazio's New Head Coach
Gennaro Gattuso is reportedly on the verge of taking charge of SS Lazio as the club prepares for a major managerial change ahead of the new season. The former Italy coach is expected to replace Maurizio Sarri, who is set to leave the club and move to Atalanta BC.
Lazio endured a difficult and tense campaign filled with internal frustration and pressure from supporters. Sarri reportedly became increasingly unhappy with the club's transfer policy and the constant criticism surrounding the team, leading both sides toward an agreement to part ways despite his existing contract.
Gattuso arrives after a disappointing spell with the Italian national team, where he failed to guide Italy to the 2026 World Cup following a playoff defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Even so, Lazio believe the experienced coach still has the qualities needed to rebuild the squad and restore competitiveness in Serie A.
Several other candidates were linked with the Lazio job, including Raffaele Palladino, but Gattuso eventually emerged as the preferred choice. His fighting mentality and strong leadership style are viewed as important factors for a club searching for stability and renewed ambition.
