Arsenal Eye Veteran Goalkeeper Yann Sommer After Inter Milan Exit

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for experienced Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who became a free agent after his contract with Inter Milan expired at the end of June 2026. The 37-year-old is now searching for a new club as he looks to continue competing at the highest level of European football.

The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a reliable backup goalkeeper following the expected departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga, whose loan spell from Chelsea has come to an end. Sommer's experience and proven consistency make him an attractive option to provide depth behind Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper.

Before Arsenal's interest emerged, Sommer had been linked with a possible return to Switzerland to finish his career with FC Basel. However, the opportunity to play in the Premier League is reportedly viewed as an appealing alternative for the former Bayern Munich shot-stopper.

Arsenal are also monitoring several other goalkeeping options, including Matthew Ryan, Stefan Ortega, and Illan Meslier. The club is evaluating multiple candidates as it seeks an experienced player capable of contributing whenever called upon throughout the season.

Sommer joined Inter Milan in January 2024 and made 76 appearances across all competitions, helping the Italian club win both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia. He also represented Switzerland at the 2026 FIFA World Cup before Inter reshaped its goalkeeping department by signing Ivan Provedel as the new first-choice keeper, with Josep Martinez serving as his backup.
