KNVB Launches Legal Action After Dutch Players Targeted by Racist Abuse Following World Cup Exit
The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has taken legal action after several Netherlands players were subjected to racist abuse on social media following the team's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The federation has submitted evidence of discriminatory online posts to public prosecutors, seeking legal consequences for those responsible.

The incident occurred after the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco in the Round of 32. Following a 1-1 draw after extra time, the Dutch side lost in a penalty shootout, with Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber, and Crysencio Summerville becoming the main targets of racist and abusive messages online.

In its official response, the KNVB stressed that racism has no place in football or society. While acknowledging that identifying every individual behind the offensive posts may not be possible, the federation emphasized the importance of pursuing legal action to demonstrate that such behavior carries consequences.

Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten also condemned the abuse, describing the attacks on the national team players as completely unacceptable. He expressed support for a thorough legal process, believing that firm action could discourage similar incidents in the future and reinforce respect for all athletes regardless of the outcome of a match.

The KNVB remains committed to supporting the affected players while continuing its efforts to combat racism in football. By pursuing legal measures and standing behind its national team members, the federation hopes to promote greater accountability and create a safer environment for players both on and off the pitch.
